Kia ora, welcome.

Tauriko for Tomorrow is a collaborative project driven by four key partners, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Bay of Plenty Regional Council, Tauranga City Council and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi. The project is being progressed in partnership with Te Kauae a Roopu, which is made up of hapū who have an interest in the Tauriko for Tomorrow project area.

We are working together to create great communities and a safe transport network in the western Bay of Plenty to cater for Tauranga’s and the sub-region’s strong population growth.

Tauriko West, on the edge of Tauranga, is one of the large-scale urban developments proposed to support this growth, delivering a new community with up to 4000 new homes from around 2027.

With a long-term plan that looks at how best to develop the new community, improve transport links and safety for all users, increase opportunities for public transport and active transport, protect freight routes to the Port of Tauranga, and open up the Tauriko West area for housing and urban development, we are implementing the vision of SmartGrowth for the wider region, starting in Tauriko West.

Find out where we’re at:

We have now begun construction of the Tauriko Enabling Works (programme of improvements to SH29) and are progressing the rezoning of the land at Tauriko West. Together these will enable the start of development of up to 2400 new homes from around 2027.
